About the Job
As a Cake Decorator at Costco, your primary responsibilities include applying fillings, frosting cakes using spatulas, and creating decorative designs and messages with pastry bags and tips. You will also assemble and box cakes, ensuring they are ready for display or special orders. Attention to detail and adherence to Costco’s quality standards are essential in this role.
Additionally, you will read member special orders to determine appropriate flavors, colors, decorative patterns, and personalized writing for cakes. Maintaining a clean and organized workspace, as well as providing prompt and courteous member service, are key aspects of this position.
Key Responsibilities for the Cake Decorator
Your tasks will focus on producing high-quality decorated cakes and maintaining operational efficiency.
- Cake Preparation: Slice half-sheet cakes, apply fillings, and frost using spatulas.
- Decoration: Use pastry bags and various tips to create borders, figures, and personalized messages according to Costco formulas and member requests.
- Special Orders: Interpret member instructions for custom cakes, ensuring clarity and accuracy.
- Product Assembly: Assemble and box cakes, transferring them to appropriate storage areas.
- Workspace Maintenance: Keep the decorating area clean and organized, adhering to safety and sanitation protocols.
- Member Service: Provide prompt and courteous assistance to members, addressing inquiries and fulfilling special requests.
Minimum Qualifications for the Cake Decorator
To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Education/Training: High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Licenses/Certifications: Food Safety Certification – Level 1 required on the first day of employment.
- Experience: Candidates with cake decorating experience will be given preference.
- Knowledge/Skills: No specific knowledge or skills required; training will be provided.
