About the Job
As a Meat Assistant at Costco, your primary responsibilities include inspecting and reassembling equipment, preparing and packaging meat products, and maintaining display cases. You will operate machinery such as automatic wrapping machines and meat grinders, adhering to safety and sanitation standards. Attention to detail and a commitment to quality are essential in this role.
Additionally, you will perform routine maintenance on equipment, ensure compliance with health codes, and provide prompt and courteous member service. Maintaining a clean and organized workspace is a key aspect of this position.
Key Responsibilities for the Meat Assistant
Your tasks will focus on producing high-quality meat products and maintaining operational efficiency.
- Equipment Inspection and Assembly: Inspect and reassemble equipment sanitized the previous night, ensuring readiness for daily operations.
- Product Preparation and Packaging: Place meat products into automatic wrapping machines, set labelers according to product type and price, and apply labels accurately.
- Display Stocking: Stock wrapped and labeled meat products in display cases, rotating products to maintain freshness and appeal.
- Meat Grinding Operations: Operate meat grinders, monitor fat content, and follow department procedures to ensure product quality and consistency.
- Sanitation and Maintenance: Clean and sanitize work areas throughout the day, perform routine maintenance on machinery, and adhere to health and safety standards.
- Member Service: Provide friendly and efficient service, assisting members with inquiries about meat products and availability.
Minimum Qualifications for the Meat Assistant
To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Education/Training: High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Licenses/Certifications: Food Safety Certification – Level 1 required on the first day of employment.
- Experience: Previous experience in meat handling or food preparation preferred.
- Knowledge/Skills: Ability to operate meat processing equipment and follow safety protocols; training will be provided.
