Sobeys Inc., a proudly Canadian company, is seeking a dedicated and customer-focused Meat Clerk to join our team at the Spryfield Sobeys location in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
In this part-time role, you will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service, ensuring the meat department is well-stocked and presented, and adhering to all food safety protocols. You will actively contribute to an environment of employee and customer engagement.

As a Meat Clerk, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality meat products to our customers. This position involves ordering, receiving, preparing, and merchandising meat products in accordance with company inventory control procedures.

Key Responsibilities for the Meat Clerk
As the Meat Clerk, you will oversee various aspects of department management. Your responsibilities include:
- Food Safety and Compliance: Adhere to all Food Safety Protocols, Standard Operating Procedures, Health and Safety policies, and other corporate programs and initiatives.
- Product Management: Order, receive, prepare, and merchandise meat products following company inventory control procedures.
- Customer Service: Provide superior customer service to meet customer needs and foster loyalty.
- Sales Promotion: Increase store sales by actively promoting featured products.
- Maintenance: Perform back shop and retail floor maintenance, keeping work areas clean and presentable as per company requirements.
- Order Preparation: Prepare customer meat orders as required.
- Shrink Management: Process department shrink as required.
- Training: Participate in the training of junior staff.
Minimum Qualifications for the Meat Clerk
To be successful in this role, candidates must have:
- Independence: Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Communication Skills: Above-average oral and written communication skills.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 20 lbs, stand for long periods, and perform physical tasks including bending, lifting, and reaching.
Preferred Qualifications for the Meat Clerk
While not required, the following qualifications are preferred:
- Experience: Previous experience in a retail meat department or similar setting is an asset but not required.
- Team Collaboration: Willingness to participate in the training of junior staff and work collaboratively with team members.
