Key Responsibilities for the Optical Student

Your tasks will focus on assisting members with eyewear selection, processing transactions, and maintaining the optical department.

  • Member Assistance: Help members choose eyeglass frames and lens options, providing prompt and courteous service.
  • Order Processing: Ring up orders and over-the-counter merchandise, handle payments accurately, and process checks, credit, and debit charges following proper procedures.
  • Eyeglass Fitting: Where permitted by provincial law and under the supervision of a licensed Optician, fit and adjust eyeglasses using frame warmers and manual adjustments.
  • Inventory Management: Order equipment, merchandise, and supplies by entering data into the computer system, following safety and security procedures.
  • Department Maintenance: Stock merchandise and supplies, follow department procedures and standards for production, record-keeping, merchandising, and product storage.
  • Sanitation: Clean the department by spraying, wiping, and mopping; empty trash, and operate trash compactor and cardboard baler.

Minimum Qualifications for the Optical Student

To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Education/Training: High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Licenses/Certifications: Current Provincial license required; registration in applicable college.
