Sobeys Inc., a leading Canadian grocery and pharmacy retailer, is seeking a dedicated Relief Pharmacist to join our team in Edmonton, Alberta.
In this full-time role, you will provide pharmacy services and support to customers, medical practitioners, and other retail pharmacies, working shifts scheduled by the Relief Coordinator. You will be responsible for delivering patient-focused care, exceptional customer service, and professional clinical services.
About the Job
As a Relief Pharmacist, your primary focus will be on clinical services, including disease state management, medication reviews, and health risk assessments. You will ensure prescription safety by delegating technical functions to Pharmacy Assistants when available, initiate care plans, follow up, and document patient interactions.
Additionally, you will coach pharmacy students and assistants, collect relevant patient, drug, and disease information, identify actual and potential drug-related problems, monitor medication adherence, and provide tailored patient counseling.
Key Responsibilities for the Relief Pharmacist
As the Relief Pharmacist, you will oversee various aspects of department management. Your responsibilities include:
- Clinical Services: Provide disease state management, medication reviews, and health risk assessments.
- Prescription Safety: Prioritize technical functions to Pharmacy Assistants when available.
- Care Plans: Initiate, follow up, and document patient care plans.
- Coaching: Mentor pharmacy students and assistants.
- Patient Information: Collect and assess patient, drug, and disease information.
- Drug-Related Problems: Identify and address actual and potential issues.
- Medication Adherence: Monitor and support patient compliance.
- Patient Counseling: Provide personalized counseling, considering individual needs such as literacy, hearing loss, and privacy.
- Customer Service: Acknowledge customers promptly and professionally, demonstrating warmth, empathy, and compassion.
- Program Knowledge: Understand and offer relevant pharmacy programs to meet customer health needs.
Minimum Qualifications for the Relief Pharmacist
To be successful in this role, candidates must have:
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from a recognized institution.
- Licensure: Licensed Pharmacist in the province of Alberta.
- Certification: Injection Certification.
- Experience: Previous experience in a retail and/or retail pharmacy setting preferred.
- Skills: Above-average communication skills (both oral and written), strong organizational skills, attention to detail, self-directed, able to work independently to meet strict deadlines, and a team player in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications for the Relief Pharmacist
While not required, the following qualifications are preferred:
- Clinical Expertise: Additional certifications in diabetes education, immunization, or smoking cessation.
- Advanced Patient Care: Experience with specialized clinical services such as travel consultations or complex care plans.
- Technology Skills: Familiarity with pharmacy management software and tools.
- Language Skills: Fluency in additional languages to support diverse patient needs.
